Costs of an Uncontested Divorce
We are charging $320 for uncontested divorces without minor children and $420 for uncontested divorces with minor children. There is also a filing fee that varies from county to county that the Court charges. The filing fee for Houston County is around $220. This is significantly less than a contested divorce, which can costs thousands of dollars in attorney fees.
For this fee, we can prepare the documents and agreement for you and your spouse to sign. Once signed, we electronically file your uncontested divorce and you will usually receive your Final Decree of Divorce in the mail about 6-12 weeks later. In most counties the judge should sign your decree in this time, but sometimes the divorce can take longer due to the judge having issues with some aspect of your agreement or the divorce just getting caught up in the administrative process and taking much longer than normal. If there is something in your uncontested divorce that requires a hearing, all hearings for divorces filed in Houston County will usually be held in the county courthouse in Dothan, Alabama.
The filing fee that the court requires is not included in the discounted uncontested divorce fee and must be paid before we can file your case for you. The filing fee for Houston County is about $223, the filing fee for Dale County is about $233, and the filing fee for Henry County is about $223. All of these filing fees include a small convenience fee for filing the divorce electronically with the court.
In order to file an uncontested divorce you must reach an agreement with your spouse. If you and your spouse have reached an agreement (or are in the process of doing so) and would like to speak with our Dothan, Alabama divorce attorney then call us today for a consultation.
